Why Rares Are Fucking Over The Economy.

Ok, it really is getting stupid and out of control. Phat sets are now at 1.5b gp. Mask sets are 80-110m and Santas are 20m. These prices are so stupid, who in their right mind would pay 500m+ for one item that does nothing (besides showing off how rich you are). The only reason people are buying them is the investment purposes. Buy one of these, let it sit in your bank for 3-4 months, and bam it’s probably doubled in price. But in the grand scheme of things they are worthless.

So the soloution. I say Jagex should remove every single tradeable rare from the game (that or make them untradeable). But of course just removing the items from the game or suddenly making them untradeable would be very unfair on the endless line of merchanting fags who have worked so hard (SARCASM) to get their pixels. So to keep the whingers happy. Give them the current street value (Averaged out of course) of the item, and then remove it or make it untradeable. Yea ofcourse they’d whinge that it could have gone up in price, but tough shit, even if Jagex did this know, rare owners would still get a large sum of gold.

Your probably reading this thinking “Omg he’s just jealous because he doesn’t have a rare.” Well your half right. I don’t have any tradeable rares. But im not jealous of people who do have them. I think this would do the game as a whole good. Not just because im jealous of people being richer than i am. It’s like life, no matter how good you are at something there will always be someone better than you. So just hold onto your rares for now, but remember, Jagex might put some update out that crashes the economy, suddenly your precious Santa Hat/Mask/Phat is worthless, or better yet they might even do as i have suggested and remove tradeable rares all together. When (If) that day comes, i’ll be laughing. Until then, rare owners, live in fear.

  1. That’s a good idea for giving people the street value of them. Then let them keep the item for show. I HAVE an undisclosed amount of Santa hats. This would actually sit ok with me

  2. I remember when i began playing RS Santas were 500k or 750k, Mask about 1m each and White phat was about 5m as i remember. I began playing 1,5 year ago. This idea is some way to stop the prices of rares. I wouldn’t be shocked if next year Phats were like 1b-1,5b.

Jagex could make them untradeble and make some shop were u could trade them for cash (prices from the day when the update was added) that would be good for RS and for most players. But knowing ppl how they react on such things Jagex would loose some players.

  3. I began playing before the crackers were released. I would never think of playing runescape on christmas, a holiday that you spend with friends and family back then for some cracker though.

And I have said this many times to shane how they should just give people street value of the items. And make it so anyone can easily get one from diango or something. But then what would happen to other items? Dragon Chains would surely sky rocket to over 100mil as well as other ‘nice’ rare items. What would all these people spend their money on? That’s billions more money in the economy if they just simply give everyone street value for them.

  4. More money in the economy minus the rares would be a good thing. You’d see less level 80’s with Whips/Barrows. Only the people who were high leveled could afford it and thus because of this would stop people leveling quite as fast (maybe not now they have pc).

  5. Well I worked hard for my PHat and Mask set and I resent the fact youre labelling me as a fag.

  6. I totally agree, they need to be sorted, but guess what, Jagex will never do it, unfortunately.

  7. Even if Jagex did something to rares, not like it would really change the economy. You’re removing rares, you’re not doing something like all of a sudden raising the price in yews, or coal. Jagex is safe either way, but rares get out of hand. People get addicted to rares, people can’t stop collecting rares. Someone needs to put these people in their spot.

Unless Jagex wants more people being targeted for hacking due to the increased prices.

  15. good morning!

well next ear the cheapest phat will be 200m wauf!

  16. I do think they will make rares untradable in the future… The newer holiday drops such as easter rings were released as untradable, and the same will be with future holiday drops/rares. It’s only a matter of time before they decide to implement this with older rares as well. I have already sold my rares and stocked up on expensive, but not very hard to get items such as whips, barrows sets, and other commodities as well. I’m actually hoping they make tradable rares untradable.
