1984 - Orwellian Parallels

First off, If you don’t know what the book 1984 is, Your obviously not that in touch with decent literature. For those who haven’t and may have some wavering interest in this story. (which I somehow doubt). 1984 Is a book written by English author George Orwell. It is a rather dark look into how our society may evolve in rather unpleasant ways. If you have any interest in current events, especially politics. I would strongly recomend you read this book. I talked Crysala into it, and hey, she even liked it! But basically this article analyses the parallels (as the title suggests..) between the book and current political happenings, particularly those of the Bush administration. A very interesting article.

If you have already read this book, read “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley. It’s similiar to 1984 and still a very good book.

Just something else to tag onto the end of this, a few well used phrases have come from the book 1984, the term “big brother” was devised by Orwell, as well as several other more obscure terms.

  1. Tsh. Reading’s for noobs.

  2. Ultimately 1984 fails as it leaves out one of the most important factors in an individuals life: purpose. The book assumes we all have something we fear that we would give into to if it came to the losing of our life. This I believe is faulty, as life may not be the most valuable thing in an indiviuals life. Thus if you fear something that is greater that your own life you will be able to give up your life when presented with fears and even with that prospect of losing your life. This however is as I pointed out, not addressed in 1984. It is assumed the thing that we fear most is tangible and therefore can be used against us.
