Ohh How Standards Have Slipped

Yea, this is getting a bit ridiculous, my blog I mean. I need to do something about it. Although I have resigned from all of my positions on RSBANDB (besides the podcast host), Shane has allowed me to keep this blog (Thanks) So Yea. I’m going to do my best to try and keep this updated regularly blah blah blah. This isn’t a new years resolution. I’m still lazy as hell. But maybe I should try a little more, Anyway.

A few things, I hope you all had a good christmas, and new year. I certainly did. I got a lot of books. Unlike most people my age, I actually like and value the sanctity of the written word. A thing I think most teenage infidels disregard. I hate when people put things like “These still exist LOL?” or “Reading is a waste of time” On their myspace profiles or anytime somebody asks them about books or reading. I regard reading as a cornerstone of intelligence and intellect. I find it rather embarrassing when I am with friends or family and they stumble along reading something out of the paper or a magazine, having to stop every couple of words because they are having difficulty reading at a decent pace. I find it bewildering how people can’t like reading. I mean, your reading this right now, you read things on the television, you read magazines. Why should a book be any different? I mean yea, I spend a good deal of time on the PC. But I still devote at least an hour a day to reading.

And now on to what I have been reading recently. I bought myself a book a few days after Christmas. “The God Delusion” By a man named Richard Dawkins. Some of you may be familiar with his work, others may not. To put it shortly he is a professor of Zoology (Animal studies for the lamer of you out there) At Oxford University. He is one of the most prominent intellectuals in the world today and a strong criticizer of Christianity, religion and the idea of a supreme creator (god). The book is basically an organized argument debating the existence of god. I finished it in 3 days, it was superbly written, and extremely convincing. I don’t believe that any reasonable Christian could read it and not doubt god’s existence. Or a member of any other religion for that fact. But Religious people are hardly reasonable are they now. I was reading reviews online of the book. It’s almost pathetic how every bad review it gets is from a devout Christian pastor, religious leader, whatever. Some clown who gets a ton of money for standing on a stage and spouting filth to a crowd of people who are narrowly more morose than he is. And what’s even more pathetic, is that the criticisms are far from constructive. Perhaps my dislike of American is strengthened by the fact that you have so many morose religious people, and even more morose citizens who follow them like sheep. I think Thomas Jefferson sums it up best:

Shake off all the fears and servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear.

Anyway, If you are atheist, agnostic or aren’t sure about God, I recommend you read “The God Delusion” It’s not an attempt to buy you into atheism, it’s just a very well orchestrated put down of organized religion, and that’s what I love.

    How true. But I doubt anyone who is religious would read it because they seem to think that rational thought is a crime. Anyway, yeah, I love reading, and am now really into the ‘Diskworld’ series by Terry Pratchett. It’s a very good read.
