Racism Is A One Way Street + Random Junk

The vast majority of English people will have heard about this. On the British version of celebrity big brother. There has been quite a furor in recent weeks. Supposedly 3 white girls in there, have been “racially abusing” some bollywood access. Now, this has demanded so much media attention, it has been talked about in the house of commons and both the prime minister, Tony Blair, and the Chancellor, Gordon Brown, have commented on this. In India there have been protests and it has even been described as a “diplomatic incident”.. Now. Am I the only person who thinks this whole thing has been blown out of all proportion? Yes the three girls did argue with the bollywood access, and one even refereed to her second name as “Poppadom” (A savory Indian snack, not sure if Americas will know what they are). Now, does that constitute racisms? Simply arguing with someone who is an Indian or a Black?

Because I pick an argument with an Asian, does that make me a racist? No it does not. It seems as though some ethnic minority’s constantly use the colour of their own skin for their benefit. I’m not accusing the bollywood actress of this, She has had other people do it for her. But the “Poppadom” calling incident did make me think a bit. At first glance it does seem racist.. but think about it. If I called an American “Brad Big Mac” Is that an insult? If I call an English person “Brad Fish & Chips” Is that insulting? No it is not. And my concluding point is this. Racism is a one way street. If a white person insults a black or Asian person, no matter what the insult was, or their reasons for doing so, the person is branded a racist. If a black or Asian person wishes to actually racially abuse a white person, they are free to do so. Another instance of this was in the British Media recently, a white boy of 14 was beaten to death by three asian youths, who in court admitted they killed him because of the colour of his skin. Little was made of this, It was not regarded as a “big story” but look at some of the other prominent race murders in Britian over the past few years. Anthony Taylor, a black student was murdered whilst trying to walk away from racial abuse, this story was on every news broadcast, on the front of every paper for days and even weeks afterwards, and the same with the Damilola Taylor incident. Yet when a white person is murdered for the colour of his skin, No one really cares. Racism should not be defined as:

“Hatred or intolerance of another race or other races. ”

I feel this would be more fitting in our modern world:

“The hatred or intolerance of whites towards other races”

On another note, Blizzards customer support really sucks, I forgot my WoW Password a few days ago, and had to send a ticket to them to prove who I was to get it changed blah blah blah. When I used to play Runescape full time, it took about 3-4 hours for Jagex to verify my identity and change my password. So far it’s taken Blizzard 6 days to reply to my ticket.. o.0

  1. I really do think she’s played the role of bringing this onto herself with the, “I’m a victim!” act. This really doesn’t excuse any of the other people who have said more than one derogatory thing to her about her origins. At first, I thought this whole thing was about her being called a “Poppadom”, but I saw a lot more disgustingly rude things that were said to her that I believe are appalling and not worthy of defending, no matter how much of this is a publicity stunt on Shetty’s part.

  2. *sigh*
While I may have no clue what all this British Big Brother is about, I know exactly what you mean. It seems because whites are the “dominant species”, which they are not necessarily, blacks are treated as if they are nearing extinction. A black person gets a major award for such and such which has never been achieved before by a black person and everybody goes crazy.

The point everyone is trying to make is that black and white people are equal, but it’s not turning out that way.
