  1. Didn’t britain excise the death penalty from its criminal system a few years back? I don’t suppose that has anything to do with the general prison population getting so comfortable they decides to stay (or comeback).

  2. Well the death penalty in Britain was abolished in 1965. With some obscure exceptions for treason I think. But yea I generally agree with you that prisons are so comfortable nowadays many prisoners have a better life in the prison than they do outside of it. You hear about people who get let out of jail after a long term inside and they can’t cope with outside life so they reoffend because they want to go back to prison.

  3. Ya, we in the USA have virtually excised the death penalty (via regulations). You are more likely now to die on death row than be executed (takes 16 years I think now on average). But I think the problem is more related to the comfort factor. I know that some mid-level security prisons now in the U.S. allow prisoners to order pizza. Anyway, it is much like the rest of society, we sacrifice common sense for security and comfort, and we reap the consequences.
