Reflection

Well, I’ve been away from the computer for 4 days, and the break has given me much needed thinking time. For one reason or another I thought a lot about the whole atheism/theism debate and realized, it’s pointless. Why I didn’t realize sooner, I don’t know. Maybe due to the fact I love arguing and debate and It was just something else to fuel my temper. Although I do not feel that the subject itself is pointless, there will obviously always be curiosity about the theory of a god, there will always be questions, and those who will attempt to the answer them.

Although a large part of my decision to attempt to distance myself from the whole subject is the fact that the vast, overwhelming majority of people whom attempt to philosophize in the area, are in fact morons who are so intellectually short sighted that they are, metaphorically, blind. People can argue over whether there is a god for the rest of their lives for all I care, people can harbour opinions, and express them. People can shout from the rooftops. I’m past caring. There are much more important things to be dealing with. I don’t have the spare time or patience to immerse myself in a debate where both sides contain people who are so immature and worthless.

It can’t be proven either way, and I really fail to see why people even draw breath on such a pointless subject.

  1. I agree, there is no point in arguing over it. No point in forcing your beliefs on someone, let them believe what they want.

  2. Religion has defined how humans have behaved for thousands of years, and it is human nature to be curious, to compete and to want to win. Why do “we” argue and debate over the existence of a God? Simply because - we have to. It is in our blood to question, and it is our meaning to answer.

  3. Welcome to the club. I stopped truly caring years ago. My mom is one of those people that sill argues for it and competes and all I can see that she does is ware herself out. My conclusion: be open to new facts, opinions, and beliefs. Consider them and research them and find out if they a) fit your belief b) don’t fit your belief. Then a) revise your belief or b) do nothing (very rare that something earth shattering was “already considered”). You will see the depth of what you consider to be true to grow as you a) understand better what you believe and b) consider more variables under the umbrella of what you believe.

Regardless, don’t spend vast time consuming books, and staring at a computer screen or losing your breath making enemies of your friends. Best to present your opinion when asked and avoid confrontation when chided. Speculative argument gets you know further in your beliefs then shooting a bullet at the moon gets you there. So save your breath and fingers and do the work with your mind.

Of course you may feel obligated to mess with people on threads like “Does God exist” or shatter stated beliefs by noting a slight (yet obvious) flaw in the persons reasoning. Consider it entertainment…and do it with a smile on your face and an italian soda at your side. 8)
