Zybez, Laziness and why RSBANDBUpdate! will ALWAYS be king of the Runescape podcasts
As some of you may or may not know, Zybez (A.K.A RSC) has set in motion proceedings to being recording their own Runescape podcast. This was first announced on the main Zybez site on April 11th, 3 weeks ago. They’ve also added a new sub forum for this podcast and have information announcing a loose idea of the format and asking for questions. All this was set in motion 3 weeks ago, and yet, at the time of writing they have not even announced a recording date, or that they have indeed recorded an episode, or even a trailer. What a good start. How they exact to succeed with motivation and time management like that I don’t know.
RSBANDB was the first major fan site to put out a podcast, and a few have tried after us, most unsuccessfully I love to add, after us. RV put out a podcast, that didn’t survive long. Why? Poor planning, commitment and laziness on the part of the hosts. I don’t necessarily think that recording a show for 1-2 hours a week requires a great deal of commitment. Sure enough it requires planning and organization, although thankfully RSBANDB has the wonderful skills of Shane12088 for those means. RSBANDBUpdate! has a tried and tested method. We don’t just focus on Runescape news, we throw in user questions on a number of topics, tech and rants. We offer variety, not just meaningless chatter about Runescape. I don’t even play Runescape full time anymore and yet I am still able to contribute a fair bit to the show. Other fan sites can copy our methods if they wish. Whether they will have the same drive and commitment as we do? I doubt it. Will they be as successful as we have? Doubt it. The only possible way RSC could become ‘better’ than us is by the means that they have a lot more users than we do. They have a bigger starting listener base. But if the podcast is of poor quality, and I expect it will be (that is if they ever get round to recording it), they wont’ sustain the number of users.
Now so far I may have sounded a little arrogant, I have numbers to back it up. Now how many regular posters would you say there are on RSBANDB? 20-30? Maybe a few more. How many unique downloads would you think we get of the podcast each week? Guess. Well since December of 2006. We have put out 22 updates. In that time we have had 5873 unique downloads of those episodes. Do the math 5873/22 = 266.9, So on average we get 267 unique downloads a week of our show. Considering that’s roughly 9 times higher than our active forum user base, that isn’t’ bad. (numbers provided by Shane)
So come on Zybez, show us what you can do. Prove me wrong, but I think your podcast will be as much of a failure as the others that have tried. But hey, prove me wrong.
RSBANDBUpdate! Almost 2 Years and still going strong.

[...] Ok so I was just talking to Mike on msn, after recording the update (first ever show without Shane ;o) and he asked if I knew how the Zybez podcast was coming along. To be honest I’d completely forgotten about that whole thing, if you want reference I made a blog post here about it when they first announced their idea two months ago. [...]
