Draynor.net: Zero Originality, 99 idea stealing.
Originality is the aspect of created or invented works by as being new or novel, and thus can be distinguished from reproductions, clones, forgeries, or derivative works. An original work is one not received from others nor one copied based on the work of others.
I guess the above means very little to the staff and brains, no wait I can’t use that phrase because the people at Draynor.net are obviously devoid of the gift we call Brains, or at the very most they have a basic working function of them. Originality is a great thing, nobody likes to see the same thing reproduced over and over do they? Nobody likes to see the same features just pathetically recreated again and again, over and over. People like variety, something different and that’s what Shane and Mike have created here at RSBANDB;
First fan site will a FULL set of skill calculators
First fan site to run a Runescape podcast
Pioneers of ‘goal signatures’
First fan site to run a ‘Skill of the month competition’
So retrospectively RSBANDB is a trailblazer as far as new features goes, that point is pretty obvious. Although the hard and brutal truth of coming up with an amazing and community changing idea is the fact that sooner or later, other sites will adapt it and use it for their own means. This is of course the real world. You can’t complain because one other site decides to use an idea or feature of yours, Of course if they directly steal it and basically use a clone of it, that’s not right. But nobody who runs a fan site would be stupid enough to do that. But in certain circumstances the number of features of yours that a fan site will choose to adopt becomes rather ridiculous, majority of features you choose to bring out, they will use, rather pathetic really isn’t it? And so ladies and gentlemen I bring you to exhibit one; Draynor.net
Now they have ‘adopted’ (Nice world for stealing) the following of RSBANDB’s features:
Goal sigs
Stat sigs
Sig of the week (Now I know RSBANDB wasn’t the first ever site to use this idea, I know it’s fairly well used in graphics sites and forums, but I think we were one of the first Runescape forums to use the idea, and no doubt they saw it here first)
and due to threads on their forum they will soon adopt RSBANDB’s very own SKOTM.
Now other sites have goal sigs, other sites have stat sigs, other sites run SOTW, other sites *cough* Zybez failures *cough* run podcasts. They borrow ideas here and there. Whereas Draynor seems to like going the whole hog and taking every idea out of our book without having the originallity to think up any themselves. Pathetic? You bet it is, doesn’t take a moron to work that out.
I have a large dislike for the vast majority of Runescape fan sites for one reason or another, but at least I respect the fact that most of them are original and respectful of other fan sites. Draynor.net lacks both these qualitys. The administration are obviously brain dead morons who probably do nothing but sit in a vegetative state all day, unable to conjure their own ideas. So good job Draynor, if people look at RSBANDB first, they’ll see you for what you are. Worthless, idea stealing morons, with about as much worth in the Runescape community as Chinese gold farmers, and I’d consider that comparison a compliment.
Views expressed in this article are my own and do not reflect the opinions of the RSBANDB administration in ANY way.
Good ideas go as far as the tutorials on Pixel2life spread.
Great post!
Agreed 100%
They went way too far…
I used to use a goal signature from Draynor but stopped because I stopped respecting them. XD
God, they annoy me.
This is, in my opinion, ridiculous. Tell me ONE market where there is only one company?
You are using your computer. We have many companies for computing. HP, Sony, Acer, Time, Tiny, Gateway…
And anyway, if someone doesn’t like their sigs, are they not entitled to get them from somewhere else?
Listen, and read my post before you make idiotic comments and only make yourself look like a retard.
I don’t criticize sites that ‘borrow’ ideas, that is perfectly acceptable, this is the real world and stealing an idea is the most hidden form of flattery. But when a site takes everyone of your ideas and features and basically makes a clone of you (or trys) you think thats acceptable? Learn some standards.
Oh wait, your from RuneHQ. They don’t have standards there.
You have no rights on my blog dumbfuck, learn that.
I can censor, twist, edit your opinion any which way I want.
