Where Jagex Could Learn From Blizzard

Now, scrolling down the World Of Warcraft EU homepage (which I don’t do often, unlike Runescape, you don’t need to go to the WoW homepage at all to play the game) I saw something that caught my eye;

Interesting Eh? Now I’d never seen this before, Well I probably had seen it, just not payed much attention to it. But, as I’m sure you can see, it’s basically a regular spot, where Blizzard staff post news of new fansites, in game events, and various other things related to ‘the community’ that they are made aware of. Now why couldn’t Jagex do something like this? In my experience Runescape has much more community orientated fan sites. I can think of 4-5 big forums run by Runescape fan sites off the top of my head. I can only think of three big wow forums, not incuding the official ones, the majority of WoW ‘fan sites’ (the popular ones) are simply databases for finding information on Items, quests and things of that like.

So Runescape as a game and community would benefit much more were Jagex to post on their site details of good and helpful fan sites and forums. But it seems to me, and others, that Jagex neglects the ‘fan site’ far too much. As MQ has previously posted about, they’re offering some crappy graphics, that’s their only help for fan sites. Woohoo. Jagex should be utilising the great (mostly) fan sites and communities Runescape as a game has attracted, not ignoring them. Blizzard have far from perfect customer service, but even they appreciate the community they have, and treat them likewise.

  1. You see… the thing is Jagex is closed minded. They refuse to realize that fansites could be a helpful source of information.

    That’s what I don’t like about Jagex. The closed-ness of their organization. They still think it’s 1996 when you needed to be overly smart to make a website and that there aren’t many around! We can also tell this by the design of their pages ;)

  2. *agree*

  3. Well… Yeah, what real graphics could Jagex offer from RuneScape aside from those… Completely different looking 3D models they produce? They’re doing wallpapers, yeah, that’s good. But, they can’t really do more than that, can they? Everything’s so pixeled.

    At least their programming is right on the dot, I’ll say that.

  4. This is why some other game similar to Runescape, but more community-oriented will someday cause an end to Jagex.

  5. Or… they may learn.

  6. Maybe when hell freezes over.

  7. Not to contradict Brad, but the 9th level of hell is supposed to be frozen? ;o

  8. You’ve been there :D?
