The Frivolity Of Opinions On The Internet.

Now I browse quite a number of internet forums, not posting as such, just browing. I browse topics about pretty much everything, even though the vast majority of the message boards I read are related to gaming, pretty much all of them have ‘off-topic’ areas. And while skimming a rather lengthy topic in which people were ‘debating’ what the best games console is, it struck me;

WHO REALLY GIVES A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK?

No, seriously.

Lets look at this logically. (This isn’t anything to do with consoles really, I’m just using it as an example. This could apply to anything)

I like Console A, I have Console A, I play games on it, it works fine for me. I have no problems with it.
On the internet forum I browse I see someone make a thread bashing Console A, and stating that Console B is far superior. Although whether it actually is or not is irrelevant, My console works fine for me and I enjoy it. Why would I change?

Does the long winded rant promoting ‘Console B’, actually make me think that Console B is better and I need to go out and buy one? No
Is anybody forcing this person to use ‘Console A’? No, so why should they rant about it?
Will I (and anyone else with a backbone) continue to make their own choice on whether Console A or Console B is better? Yes

All these ‘rants’, aimed at things that people are more than happy to use or partake in, end up with is people thinking you’re an asshole.

I understand that my title is rather misleading, as most opinions are stated for discussional value, and therefore not entirely frivolous. Although I could not think of a more fitting title.

  1. Same goes for browsers ;)

  2. Quiet you.

  3. We as human beings cannot drive others to view the same opinions as us with such respect and understanding. For something that works so well with us, why change? If it works very well to our use and purpose, why change? Because someone said to?

    I’m sure flame battles and arguments is really what the internet creators had in mind.

  4. Natural instict, if I don’t like something and think/know there is something better, it’s in my nature to against it, and go for the thing I like and feel is better. Humans like to argue. We’re strange like that.

  5. P.S THe address for my blog has now changed: http://www.englishpenguins-blog.net. Pl0x update. :D
