The Community Is A Fucking Joke
As many of you may or may not know, for various reasons I have been away from RSBANDB and the forums for the past week. Upon my return I began to browse through the forums as I normally do. And one thing struck me; there are a lot of fucking retards who post at RSBANDB. Now I’m not going to name names, first of all because it’s not nice and second of all because an Admin calling out and insulting specific members of the community on his blog is not proper. But I don’t see anything wrong with insulting the community as a whole. Because frankly it deserves nothing less.
Do you remember what RSBANDB was like.. say.. 6 months ago? A year ago? 2 years ago? Majority of the people reading this won’t. Some will claim they do, thats another layer of the morons who call RSBANDB home, the people who lie about how long they’ve been around, about their credentials to the community, who like to pretend they’re ‘old school’. But anyway, to those who do remember RSBANDB a year ago? What do you think it was like? Better than it is now? I think it was. I think a lot of idiots have crawled out of the woodwork in the past year.
There are no interesting topics of discussion on the forum any more. I actually preferred the 20 page religion topics because people actually DEBATED things, and put some effort in to their posts. Now what do we have? I visited the non rs discussion forum about 10 minutes before I started writing this and I can’t recall any of the topics in there, not one, shows you how interesting and gripping things have gotten in there. And the sandbox, ohh the sandbox. That was better. It was never a great font for discussion or interest, as one can expect from a place where people are allowed to spam freely. But it seems to have sunk to an all time low. People spamming useless crap over and over and over just because they can, people acting like retards because they think it makes them cool, people arguing with each other and putting other people down over nothing. People who strut around trying to act smart and push it in other peoples faces.
It’s no wonder that next to no new members decide to stay. If I came across RSBANDB for the first time in its current state I would certainly have no desire to become involved in the community or post. The lack of new members is also probably due to the fact that there is an inherently elitist attitude among the majority of the community. People think because they have X amount of posts or have been signed up since X date that makes them better than anybody else. That a number or a date actually makes them superior to the bronze member that signed up yesterday, well news flash assholes; IT DOESN’T.
A hell of a lot of you need to get over yourselves and learn the meaning of the word empathy.

In fact, I do dislike some of the new members. That makes me an elitist apparently. Keyword is “some” so I’m not saying I hate all of them.
After all, I did take a hiatus few months ago because I was generally sick of the community. But I’m aware that I may have been a hypocrite about it.

So all we need now is another heated debate between those two on religion.
The last time a religion topic was made, everyone actually somewhat agreed, and it had about 9 posts at the most. o.O However, the one made before that (6 or 7 pages I believe it got to) was pretty interesting.
I realize that RSBANDB has changed since I first joined, and it may be a negative change, but I’ve just learned that changes are going to happen with a community like this. I’m just going to have to get used to it. RSBANDB is still my favorite online community, and I’m here to stay for awhile.

Honestly, I love you guys over at RSBANDB.
Of all the sites dedicated to RuneScape, you guys seems the least corporate. You’re just a bunch of gamers reaching out to other gamers, and that’s what it’s supposed to be. Unfortunately, as RuneScape doesn’t enforce the age requirement, the newbies are getting younger and less mature. Everyone blasts each other just so they can get an E-rection over how badass they are. It’s all flamewars and nonsensical bullshit. These degenerate retards spill over into RSBANDB and the other sites and fuck them all up.
But realize something Brad, you too Shane; RSBANDB is YOUR website. YOU control it and you have not only the ability, but the responsibility to purge it of the cancerous infestation of adolescent douchebags that plague it. YOU establish who gets in and who gets gone, and you need to begin picking up the latter.
What RuneScape fansites are missing most is an oasis for the mature players to congregate and have their own community. There are courteous, respectful, helpful, intelligent players still playing. And it’s incredible, but because of their maturity, they are often shunned. These players need a place to go. And YOU can provide and revive it.
That said, I detest the black background. It’s depressing and anything but welcoming. The buttons are sharply cornered as well, very 90’s. That’s the secondary reason I haven’t joined; it’s just not a warm website layout. It misrepresents the wonderful people that frequent the site. I understand this seems like a very weak point, but I’m only throwing out my opinion.
Everything I’ve said is merely suggestion, but I would really kill to see Shane strap on his balls and excommunicate the problem children who have nothing to contribute.

Well said Firefoxx. But sadly the staff have mused over how we can solve the community problems before, and I think we’ve always come to the same conclusion; we can’t really control what people post or how they express themselves, hell we’d really like to, but we can’t.
I think we also like the fact we’re viewed as a more relaxed forum, we don’t want to bear down on everyone and make them jump through hoops and adhere to strict guidelines just to post on a forum. Like many other sites do. But I guess with that comes the more relaxed feeling that attracts as you so eloquently put it “adolescent douchebags”. So I guess we can’t have it all.
But if every RSBANDB member was like you, hell it would be like utopia. Again, very well said.
Well ponder this, because I can absolutely understand how your crew came to that conclusion: A VIP forum area. Take the cream of the crop and give them a site status allowing them into a more helpful and less militant forum. Just a few boards, the typical ones, leaving the sandbox and other fluff out. It would give the top dogs a place to reestablish their sanity and would be a great motivator to increase helpful discussion in the ‘lesser’ boards so that people would hope to be promoted into accessing the higher boards. These higher boards could be viewed as a privilege and not a right, something to be taken away if someone did something drastic enough to deserve a demotion.
Again, just my 4 cents, but I think it might help bring back the “good ol’ days”. It’s certainly true that RuneScape has changed, devolved in my opinion, but there needs to be a place for the old players to congregate, and you guys could be the dark horse.
We sort of had something like that, we called it ‘Distinguished Users’ but it really didn’t turn out right. For many reasons.
It’s a damn shame there’s so many dickbags in the places I like to go.
You should give it another go. It’ll take time, but eventually it’ll grow into a mature group of individuals who won’t call each other retarded homosexual fuckfaces who specialize in giving dildo demonstrations, and won’t proclaim how much they enjoy impregnating each other’s mothers at the slightest provocation. I do see the irony in that statement.
I used to co-lead a clan and I gained an overwhelming adoration in my underlings because of my “I swear to god if you bullshit I’ll kill you” dictatorial enforcement. There was plenty of messing around on the forums and at non-serious events, but if someone messed around on a pking trip, I’d kill them on the spot. They were welcome to retrieve the items themselves or reclaim them from open-inventoried clan members. I had no tolerance for mental degenerates and if anyone mouthed off at anyone else I’d hear both out and kill the wrong-doer. People liked it because only the worthy survived. Sure i had people that hated me, but I got the fuck rid of them, and I had my clan’s support.
I see where you guys are, and I know how much you value being a comfortable forum, but in my opinion, there needs to be an upper tier for those deserving of it to feel accomplished. This will not only help solve your community problem but will help inspire people to join up. Advertise it on your podcast and you’ll have some definite new recruits.
And I’m going to readdress the website layout. Black may be “cool” but it’s not relaxed. A warmer brown would be very fitting and I’m sure you could run a contest for people on the site to create a website background in Photoshop if they were given the specifications. Look at Zybez’s background compared to RuneHQ’s and then yours. Tip.It’s and Sal’s too. The warm blues are more welcoming, more inviting, more comfortable. The rebellious punks will stay as far away from the warm tones as they can and the mentally normal crowd will move in.
Give them both a chance and some time to catch on. It might be worth your time, it might not. Who can say?
I agree. I will admit I’m not active on RSBANDB because I prefer sites like this. People who actually ake time to find this site, are mostly smarter and less stupid than the ones who typed in runescape on google.
I like debating religion a lot. I’ll start an argument with you right now if you want. Also I don’t make stupid comments like “Because i said so”, or ” Shut up noob!”. I only state facts. Anyways i agree 100%!

A perfect example of what I’m saying. It would be such an original element you could add to RSBANDB and there are many people like Samarkov just waiting for someone to implement it. Hell, you could even have a “Mature Non-RuneScape Discussion” thread for people like Samarkov to debate religion, abortion, and politics. No flaming allowed, strictly enforced. Flame/name call and you lose the right to use it, period.
It could be done, and I’d hate to see the other fansites attempt it and butcher it.
You’re right, RSBANDB is nothing like it is a year ago.
I’d like to see Distinguished Users implented again. I understand that when the rank still existed the specific forum wasn’t active, but it couldn’t hurt to give it another go. Maybe it would bring back some posters who have (almost) disappeared, bogrollbloke and MOTV for example.
